Case study - M-BIRR Mobile Money

M-BIRR was the first mobile money service in Ethiopia, enabling people across the region to access a range of financial services including account management, money transfers, bill and loan managment and shopping.

Provato Gateway connects over 1.5 million M-BIRR customers to mobile wallets in 6 financial institutions.
It is used to dynamically route ussd, sms, and app interfaces.
Provato Gateway supports a single short code for multiple institutions.

Every day the Provato Gateway connects 1.5 million Ethiopian customers to their M-BIRR mobile wallets. We used Provato because we wanted a single point of access - one short code for all - for all our customers even though we provide the M-BIRR service to multiple financial institutions. Provato routes USSD calls, text, app and airtime traffic to and from each financial institution seamlessly. It greatly simplified the integration to mobile network and scales painlessly. It's a super product!
